Tony Rock stays working. With a new role on BET’s Reed Between the Lines and a hosting gig for the updated version of Showtime at the Apollo, now called Apollo Live, he gets to showcase his range… but landing steady employment isn’t easy, he admits.
“Comedy is like verbal boxing,” the Brooklyn, NY native says. “And in fighting, if you don’t think you’re going to get hit in the face, you’re in the wrong sport.”
JET: What was your worst performance ever?
TONY ROCK: It was at the Comic Strip in 2000. A guy threw a lemon wedge at me and then he walked across the stage to get a girl’s phone number. I tried to play it off and make a joke out of it, but I lost control of the room.
