When it was first announced that a 10-minute spoof launched by Kevin Hart for the 201 1 BET Awards was being turned into a 30-minute series, the initial response by most was, “why?” But the resulting mock reality series, Real Husbands of Hollywood (Tuesdays, 10pm ET on BET) actually works. And well. The show not only delivers star power, it also gives an honest, albeit biting, account of each celeb’s status— or lack thereof— in Hollywood. Expect big laughs as taller castmates go in on everything from his physical stature to his struggle with megalomania. “It’s an Oscar-worthy performance,” Hart tells JET.
Teased throughout the show for being a relative unknown among African-Americans— despite Curb Your Enthusiasm fame— Smoove makes his own waves. “I’m a comedian, actor and instigator.”
The “husbands” make sure to take advantage of every dim-witted hunk joke and underemployed actor jab at their disposal. “It was a fun, eye-opening experience,” the hunky performer explains.
“I make movies,” Cannon
is quick to say. “Why am I here?” His castmates are happy to remind the America’s Got Talent host that in the eyes of some he’s merely “Mr. Mariah Carey.”
