Sixteen-year-old Gabby Douglas is still on fire! The young Olympian received the Women’s Sports Foundation 2012 Sportswoman of the Year Award for Individual Sport on Wednesday (Oct. 17) night during the 33rd Annual Salute to Women in Sports banquet in New York.
The prestigious award recognizes athletes with exceptional performance and is determined by voting from the general public and the Women’s Sports Foundation Awards Committee.
Douglas received the award alongside Alex Morgan who was named as Sportswoman of the Year for Team Sports.
Douglas won the all-around gold at the London Olympics, becoming the fourth American, and first African-American, to win gymnastics’ biggest prize. She also helped the U.S. women win the team title, their first since 1996 and second overall.
